Gay Games 9 – Cleveland 2014
This tumblr is mostly dedicated to my pursuit of competition at the Gay Games. The idea of being competitive in a sport again is exciting for me. I have a history as a competitive athlete. Growing up I was a competitive highland dancer and also played soccer and golf competitively. The sports I was most gifted in were skiing and snowboarding and I competed at the national level for both.
At this point I am not sure if I will compete in bodybuilding or powerlifting and some of that is related to my transsexual transition. I do not identify as male or female and although I live my life socially as a dude that role does not totally fit for me. My transition is not a linear one and to be honest I don’t know where I will end up. I don’t know if I want chest surgery and I don’t know how long I will continue HRT. I have no intentions whatsoever of legally changing my sex to male. This puts me in a very awkward position in terms of my dreams of being a competitive powerlifter/bodybuilder. For bodybuilding especially, a “sport” which is judged solely on physique and conditioning I could only compete in female if I still have breasts. Powerlifting seems like a better fit as it is judged upon numbers. So for now I will focus on powerlifting for GG9 because at this point it seems more realistic for the current state of my body.
So let’s review where I’m at in terms of my strength and where I need to be come 2014.
Bench 93kgx2 (this was not legal powerlifting form. I did not touch my chest or pause)
Squat 106x5 (have never tested a 1RM for squat)
Deadlift 161x1 (went for a double and got it off the floor but not much further than that)
GG2010 results for my current weight category of 71kg:
*The only female in the 75kg weight category has no scores. :(
